PRESS RELEASE: Jamaal Myers Opens Re-Election Campaign Office in Scarborough North
SCARBOROUGH, ON, September 14, 2026 - City Councillor Jamaal Myers officially opened his re-election campaign office in Ward 23 on September 12, 2026, in his bid for a second term ahead of the October 26 municipal election.
Myers, who has represented Scarborough North since 2022 and currently chairs the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), welcomed residents, community members, and volunteers to the new office at Unit 209, 2061 McCowan Road, where he thanked supporters and outlined what's still ahead for the ward.
"This office is more than a headquarters; it's where this campaign actually lives," said Myers. "Every phone call, every conversation on a doorstep, every volunteer who shows up to help starts right here. Four years ago, this community trusted me to deliver. Today, surrounded by the people helping make that happen again, I'm asking for the chance to finish what we started."
Since taking office, Myers points to a first-term record that includes:
TTC fares frozen for three consecutive years as Chair of the Toronto Transit Commission
The Scarborough Busway, opening this fall, cutting commute times across the ward
$471 million in federal funding secured for 11,780 affordable rental units, including a sixplex housing pilot
New and expanded youth hubs at Woodside Square and Malvern libraries, with $200,000 in annual funding secured for a new youth hub at the Agincourt Recreation Centre
The Bernice Redmon Long-Term Care Home, developed with TAIBU, breaking ground this fall with a community benefits agreement guaranteeing local construction jobs
Continued investment in roads, traffic safety, and green space across Ward 23 neighbourhoods
The campaign office will serve as the operational hub for canvassing, volunteer coordination, and community outreach through Election Day. Following today's launch, volunteers headed out across the ward to deliver flyers and speak directly with residents, a rhythm the campaign plans to repeat regularly between now and October 26.
"I grew up in Scarborough," Myers added. "I know what it means when the bus doesn't come on time, when rent keeps climbing, when a neighbourhood feels forgotten. That's exactly why I ran the first time, and it's why I'm still showing up."
Andrea Hazell, Member of Provincial Parliament of Ontario, said, “I say ‘we,’ because he is me and I am him. We're not gonna sit down in the back seat and say we're gonna win; we will win… when black brilliance takes the floor, it’s over, and this man has got all the talents in the world.”
Brian Connolly, Executive Board Member, Automotive Garages at ATU Local 113, said, “I represent 13,000 TTC workers. I grew up in this neighbourhood…I’ve known Jamaal even before he came into politics. Jamaal has cared about the people, the neighbourhood, and public transit since he was young…He's there for the community and our public services, and we need Jamaal back in office.”
Nancy M. Siew, Order of Ontario recipient, said, “I’m here because all of you feel the same way about Jamaal…There are two types of politicians: the first kind just talk, talk, talk; Jamaal belongs to the second group, who are doers, who actually get down on his hands, really help, listen, understand, and deal with the question.”

Jamaal Myers is the City Councillor for Ward 23 (Scarborough North) and Chair of the Toronto Transit Commission. Born and raised in Scarborough, Myers grew up in public housing and went on to earn degrees from Western University, the London School of Economics, and NYU School of Law before working as a senior lawyer at TD Bank.
