Jamaal Myers Launches Campaign for Re-Election in Scarborough North

SCARBOROUGH, ON – July 15, 2026 – City Councillor Jamaal Myers officially announced he is running for re-election in Ward 23, Scarborough North, in the October 26, 2026 municipal election. 

Myers, who has served as Ward 23's councillor since 2022 and chairs the Toronto Transit Commission, is campaigning on "Leadership That Delivers”.

"Scarborough North gave me the honour of a lifetime when they elected me four years ago as their City Councillor. I earned their trust with a simple slogan: Results Matter. Not talk. Just action. Since then, I have focused on making  Scarborough North more affordable, safe and connected. By working with the community, a lot has been accomplished, but there's still more to do," said Myers. “I’m seeking re-election because our community faces a number of critical decisions on housing, transit, and infrastructure which will shape our neighbourhoods for decades to come. More than ever, we need trusted leadership that works with and for our community. I’m asking for the support of my constituents again because by working together, we can build a Scarborough North that works for all of us.”

First-term highlights:

  • Froze TTC fares three years in a row

  • Started a sixplex housing pilot in Scarborough North that helped Toronto secure $471M in federal funding to build 11,780 affordable rental homes

  • Championed and secured funding for the Scarborough Busway to save commuters up to 15 minutes (opening September 2026)

  • Secured funding to widen Steeles Avenue between Tapscott and Ninth Line (construction starting in 2027)

  • Opened youth hubs at Malvern and Woodside Square libraries and secured $200,000 annually to open a youth hub at Agincourt Recreation Centre (opening September 2026)
